EQUINE MASSAGE AND SADDLE FITTING

@ WOOD HAVEN

Presenters are:  Rene Noriega and Amanda Yanez

(Licensed and Insured Equine Body Workers)

Fee $10.00

“All money to be donated to the Pima County 4-H Horse Project”

·         Equine massage has a very strong healing influence on horses of all ages and conditions.

·         It is widely used to prevent and relieve stress as well as assist in the recovery

from illness and injuries.

·         Massage techniques can safely affect the whole body by helping to regulate the circulatory, muscular and nervous systems.

·         Massage can also relax your animal when excitable, and add strength and flexibility.

·         It can also aid in the release of toxins and increase oxygenation for a better metabolism, leading to enhanced performance and shorter recuperation time.

·         Additional benefits include; increased range of motion, improved stamina, enhanced performance as well as gait quality and reduced tactile defense.

·         A saddle that fits your horse well, will promote performance without discomfort, and allow full potential.  Comfort for the horse is the result of a correctly fitted and balanced saddle.  In turn, will distribute the weight evenly over the weight-bearing surface of the saddle and onto the back without afflicting the various muscle groups and fascia of the back.

Extension is please to announce the launch of its first Communityof Practice web site, HorseQuest.  HorseQuest provides internet visitors with reliable and up-to-date horse information through a knowledge base of commonly asked questions that have science-based, peer-reviewed answers.  In addition, online lessons use self-paced learning objects to help users learn more about specialized areas of equine science.  The newest lesson being introduced is a module for new and prospective horse owners.

Horseland is a show about kids and their horses experiencing adventures with themes of friendship, teamwork, acceptance, and compassion similar to the leadership, citizenship and life skills youth learn through their participation in 4-H.

Leaders:  This is an optional project for your members.  This most likelywill be required to participate in State 4-H Events in the Future.

                                                Tucson, AZ  85719
These will be available for free from the Extension Center in the future.
Some clubs have asked if they can use their own books and that is okay too.  The following are some things that need to be included:
Member Name-Club Name-Leader Name-Horses Name-Markings and Color of Horse (Identification should be thorough and accurate)-General Information about your horse (how long you owned, who cares for, who rides and skills you hope to accuire on your horse.)-Feeding Record-Expenses-Shoeing Record-Show Record-Any Pictures member would like to include.

This is what One Parent has to say about Record Keeping Books:

"I love the Horse record Book!  Prior to my daughter filling out the expense
section in the record book I would hear "I need to buy this" or "I would
like to have that".  Ali wrote every expense down from the day she bought
her horse Sobi a year ago to the end of Fair this year.  This included tack,
training, shows, board, feed, Vet and Furrier bills.  Her mouth dropped, she
couldn't believe how much it cost for her to have her horse for just one
year.   She now works at the barn to help pay for Sobi and her training
bills.  I highly recommend the Horse Record Book be used every year.  It's a
great way to have everything about your horse in one place.  Ali just
started a new one."

Leaders!  Don’t forget to know your Tack and Dress Code for each event.   Please refer to your rule books as you do not want your kids turned away at the gate for improper tack or dress.

Leaders:   During the Winter Point Show it has been noticed that there are parents or other adults that are helping the members with their 4-H project. (Grooming, Tacking, etc.)  This is against the rules and could have the member disqualified.  The members are to do all their own grooming and tacking with exceptions for things they cannot do. (Lifting a heavy saddle onto the back of the horse.)  There is also an exception for medical issues with your animals.  Please help your parents understand these rules as we do not want to see any child turned away at a show.

There is also a problem with "Coaching from the Rail".  This is where the parent or other adult is telling a member what to do while they are being judged in the ring. This is also against the 4-H rules, so please advise your members and their parents of this rule too..
